The Baptist Cancer Center is committed to providing Mid-South physicians, cancer patients and their families with the assurance and confidence that excellent, compassionate, advanced care is close to home, in North Mississippi, West Tennessee and Eastern Arkansas.

Academic Partnership between Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and Baptist Cancer Center

Since 2012, Baptist Cancer Center has partnered with Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center to establish a framework for collaborative oncology initiatives. The goal of this affiliation is to enhance the level of cancer care in the region served by the Baptist Cancer Center and Baptist Memorial Health Care and to advance the research, discovery and prevention mission of Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt University/Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This collaboration provides Baptist cancer patients with increased access to VICC clinical research trials and genetic diagnostic tools. Many of these services are available in local communities across Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Through this affiliation, there will be many opportunities for advancement of cancer care. There are physician collaborative efforts in the areas of breast cancer, lung cancer, and stem cell transplant.

Specific goals of the academic affiliation include the following:

  • Joint cancer clinical trials and other research protocols
  • Sharing of cancer tissue/biospecimens for personalized genomic-based cancer treatment programs
  • Joint disease-specific conferences and treatment planning tumor boards
  • Joint clinical care pathways for cancer care
  • Joint scientific collaborations in translational cancer research
  • Fellowship training programs in oncology subspecialties
  • Participation in all National Comprehensive Cancer Network activities as a partner of VICC
  • Assistance with recruitment of national cancer experts for Baptist Cancer Center
  • Eligibility for research membership in VICC for qualified Baptist Cancer Center members
  • Eligibility for faculty appointments in appropriate academic departments if eligible for qualified Baptist Cancer Center members
  • Joint cancer awareness, public education and cancer prevention programs for the populations served by Baptist
  • Further enhancing the quality of cancer care, research and prevention for the underserved minority populations served by Baptist Memorial Health Care

Baptist Cancer Center is excited about the opportunity to be affiliated with the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and to provide a mutually beneficial relationship to promote the research, discovery and prevention initiatives of both organizations.
